Blacklaw Primary opened in 1969 and over the past 53 years we have gained a reputation for
providing a quality education through a broad-based curriculum, delivered by a team of highly
committed professional staff using the most appropriate of resources and teaching methodologies.
We have a very happy, caring and friendly atmosphere in our school and everyone works hard to
foster and maintain the school’s caring, believing and achieving ethos.

We are proud to work in partnership with our parents and carers, and our Parent Teacher
Association has recently amalgamated with our active Parent Council to play a key role in
supporting our children, particularly in relation to raising funds to enhance their learning
experiences.

We are building on our local community links, with regular library visits, partnerships with local
businesses and charities including 21st Century Families and Loaves and Fishes, and our
longstanding association with Claremont Parish Church.
We are part of the Calderglen Learning Community and have strong links with our neighbouring
schools.

Blacklaw Family Forum
Your Parent Council

All Blacklaw Primary School parents automatically become members of the parent forum when their child starts school. Being part of the parent forum enables any parent to get involved with school life in whatever way they can, whether helping out on school trips, supporting an extra-curricular sports activity, sharing workplace knowledge with children in the classroom or as a representative at our Parent Council - The Blacklaw Family Forum (BFF). The BFF helps with fundraising for our school, but it’s not just about raising money. They also offer parents the opportunity to get involved in a range of activities. Whether helping at a school disco, lending a hand with the school library or just enjoying the many social and fundraising activities the BFF has to offer, we welcome each and every one of you.

The Blacklaw Family Forum meet monthly, during term-time, and welcome all parent forum members to come along and hear about what’s going on at the school. Some are held in-person, in the school and some are held online. Links to the online meetings will be shared on ParentsPortal and on X. If you’d like to get involved on a more regular basis, please consider becoming a member of the BFF to help us work together for you, for your child and for the whole school community.

Pupil Council

Our Pupil Council gives pupils a voice and empowers them to make changes for the better in our school. The Pupil Council is comprised of two elected pupils from each class. Pupil Councillors attend regular meetings and report back to their classmates to keep them informed of upcoming events.

House Captains

The school operates a House System which helps to unite Blacklaw Primary through activities centred around our school values. There are four houses:
BURNS     CASTLE     SALTIRE     THISTLE

House Captains take responsibility for organising assemblies, setting house challenges and games.

JRSO

The Junior Road Safety Officer (JRSO) programme puts children in control of highlighting road safety issues within their school. Our Primary 6 JRSOs are responsible for delivering safety presentations to classes at assemblies and running road safety competitions.

Tech Team

Our Tech Team helps with technologies across the school, not only as experts in using iPads, C-Touch and Chromebooks but also as championing technology to enhance our learning.
